Pakistan and India meetings in ICC ODI Cricket World Cups

Once again, all eyes are on the most awaiting match between Pakistan and India in ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. The 22nd match of the tournament will be played between rivals India vs Pakistan on 16th June, 2019 at Old Trafford, Manchester. This match has a lot of fans following in all over the world specially in Pakistan and India. Match will start at 02:30 PM in Pakistan and at 03:00 PM in India. Team India has good record against Pakistan team in world cups by winning all 6 matches. Pakistan is still seeking for their first victory against India in world cups. This match has different value and importance from other matches because of two rival nations.

In champions trophy 2017, India defeated Pakistan in their first match by 124 runs, in this match Pakistan innings reduced to 41 overs due to rain. After that both teams met again in the final match of the champions trophy 2017, where Pakistan performed well and won the match and trophy by 180 runs. Muhammad Amir bowled superb by taking first three wickets including Virat Kohli, but this time the inclusion of Muhammad Amir in world cup squad is based on the fitness and performance against England. This match will encourage Pakistan team to repeat that performance again in world cup to break the Indian winning streak.


Pakistan vs India (World Cup 1992):

The first match between Pakistan and India was played on 4th March, 1992 at Sydney in world cup 1992. Imran Khan was the Captain of Pakistan team and Indian team was led by Azharuddin. India batted first and set a target of 217 by losing 7 wickets. Sachin Tendulkar scored a fifty in this match and Mushtaq Ahmed from Pakistan took 3 wickets. In second innings, Aamer Sohail and Javed Miandad scored 62 and 40 runs respectively. Indian bowlers restrict the Pakistan team to 173 and won that match easily.

Pakistan vs India (World Cup 1996):

The second match was played on 9th March, 1996 at Bengaluru in world cup 1996. Aamer Sohail was the Captain of Pakistan side and Indian team again led by Azharuddin. India won the toss and elected to bat first, with the innings of 93 by Navjot Sidhu India set a target of 288. Waqar Younas and Mushtaq Ahmed both got 2 wickets. In Pakistan innings, Aamer Sohail and Saeed Anwar gave a good start with a partnership of 84 but after that Pakistan didn’t play consistently by losing 9 wickets and scored only 248 runs. India won that match by 39 runs.

Pakistan vs India (World Cup 1999):

The third match was played on 8th June, 1999 at Manchester in world cup 1999. Once again India batted first and with the help of innings of 61 and 59 by Rahul Dravid and Azharuddin, India put 227 runs on the score board by losing 6 wickets. Wasim Akram and Azhar Mahmood both bowled well and took 2 wickets each. Shahid Afridi scored only 6 runs and Inzamam-ul-Haq was the highest run scorer for Pakistan by scoring 41 runs in that match. Pakistan all out to 180 by the brilliant bowling of Prasad who took 5 wickets and India won that match by 47 runs.Wasim Akram was the Captain of Pakistan team and Azharuddin led the Indian team for the third time.

Pakistan vs India (World Cup 2003):

The fourth match was played on 1st March, 2003 at Centurion in world cup 2003. This time Waqar Younis hold the captaincy of Pakistan team and Sourav Ganguly led the Indian side. Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first, Saeed Anwar scored a century but no other batsman played a good innings except Younis Khan and Rashid Latif who scored 32 and 29 runs respectively to help Pakistan to set a target of 274 by losing 7 wickets.Mater mind Sachin Tendulkar missed his century by 2 runs and a fifty from Yuvraj Singh helped Indian team to chase that target in the 46th over and India won the match by 6 wickets.

Pakistan vs India (World Cup 2011):

The fifth match was the semi-final of the ICC cricket world cup 2011 which played on 30th March, 2011 at Chandigarh. MS Dhoni was the captain of Indian team and Pakistani team led by Shahid Afridi. India won the toss and elected to bat first, once again Sachin Tendulkar played an important innings of 85. Virender Sehwag and Suresh Raina added some runs by scoring 38 and 36 respectively to set a total of 260. Wahab Riaz performed well and took 5 crucial wickets. Pakistan was good in start but after losing Kamran Akmal and Muhammad Hafeez, they continuously lost their remaining wickets that cost them in losing that match. Only Misbah-ul-Haq played a 50+ innings. 5 bowlers from Indian side took 2 wickets each and won that match by 29 runs. India also won that world cup 2011 and lift their second world cup trophy.

Pakistan vs India (World Cup 2015):

The sixth match was played on 15th February, 2015 at Adelaide in world cup 2015. By batting first, India set a highest total of 300 for Pakistan by losing 7 wickets. Sohail Khan was the man who took 5 wickets by giving 55 runs in 10 overs. Virat Kohli scored a century to build that total. Shikhar Dhawan and Suresh Riana also played important innings of 73 and 74 respectively. In second innings, Younis Khan opens the batting with Ahmed Shehzad but scored only 6 runs. Ahmed Shehzad scored 47 and Haris Sohail scored 36 to rescue their team. Misbah-ul-Haq once again tried his best and lost his wicket on 76. Mohammed Shami got 4 wickets to ended the Pakistan innings to 224 and India won that match by 76 runs. Misbah-ul-Haq was the captain of Pakistan team and Indian team was under the captaincy of MS Dhoni.

Now it will be seventh match between India and Pakistan in ICC cricket world cup 2019. Captain of the Champions Trophy 2017 winning team Sarfaraz Ahmed will lead the Pakistan team and Indian run machine Virat Kohli will be the Captain of Indian team. Lets see this time can Pakistan team stop India to win another match against them or can India continue winning matches against Pakistan in ICC World Cups.
